Back to the Fyootcha!

January 5, 2010 3 comments

So I figured to commemorate the last months of this blog’s existence, I’d go back to the theme I started out with. Sweet memories. Or something like that.

This Christmas break was just awesome. Got spoiled with all the lovely gifts from my family, the future in-laws, and Jenn. Got the LEGO Grand Carousel, a safety razor shaving kit from Jenn (I am all that is man), some killer binoculars with a built-in digital camera, assorted gift cards, and some very comfy slippers, among other things. I got Jenn the Eternal Love Cross pendant from James Avery, and she wears it every day now. It looks amazing on her. Oh, and we got a Wii! And Jenn got Wii Fit+ and that Jenny McCarthy workout game that comes with a camera that watches to make sure you’re doing the exercises right. Kinda creepy, but it should be fun. Haha!

One of the best things about Christmas this year, hands down, was that we finally got a White Christmas!

It snowed like the dickens on Christmas Eve. Like, blowing sideways and prohibiting your vision… dickens. Yeah, anyway, it calmed down overnight, but it was still BEAUTIFUL for Christmas Day. That was such an awesome treat. Wish it would snow again, as cold as it is outside. We’re supposed to see the coldest temperatures in a loooooong time around here starting tomorrow night. Like, wind chills around 0 degrees in the evenings. Yay!

We went to City Streets in Sundance Square for New Year’s Eve. It was fun to do some dancing with Jenn (and Misty made a friend that she danced with all night, hehe). And at midnight, Jenn and I looked at each other and said, “Now we can finally say ‘We’re getting married this year!'” LOL

Speaking of that, we got the tuxes picked out for me, the groomsmen, the dads, and the ringbearers. They look pretty dang slick, I can’t wait to see how we all look together. Along with that, over the holiday, Jenn’s also been working on some paper mache letters for a couple of the tables at the reception. She has some that spell out “WE DO” for the cake table, and “love is sweet” for our candy buffet table. They look really pretty, she’s done an excellent job with them.

Got some pretty big stuff ahead of me in the next couple months. Not only am I applying to graduate, but I’m going to be taking the TExES on February 6th. For those of you who don’t know, that’s the state certification exam that all Texas teachers have to take. And I’m taking it a month from tomorrow. Whoa! Talk about surreal, huh? I can’t believe I’m finally at this point. I get butterflies thinking about it. After ten years of jackin’ around and not knowing what to do with my life, I’m finally about to step into not only married life, but a full-on professional life. I think I may go get some of those paper mache letters, spell out “paraprofessional” with them, and burn them in a celebratory bonfire. 🙂

Anyway, say a prayer for us. These five months leading up to graduation and the wedding are going to be completely crazy, and Jenn and I are gonna need all the support we can get.

Oh, and we saw Sherlock Holmes. Frickin’ SWEET movie. I so want the soundtrack.

LOUD NOISES.

It could only be Friday.

I have a new theory about morning traffic around my place of employment. I’m calling it Big C’s Theory of Student/Rain Relationships:

“On any given day, the length of the tardy lines outside the Assistant Principals’ offices is directly proportionate to how much it’s been raining that morning.”

Seriously, friend, you can put money on that. It’s absolutely absurd how late the students are when there’s rain coming down. And apparently, I had the blessed luck of being behind most of these kids on the road this morning. As a result, I was a couple of minutes late. Lame.

Anyway, TGIF. I’m going to get my hurah cut after school, then Jenn and I are meeting my dad at his travel agent’s office so we can figure out our honeymoon to Hawaii. To say we’re excited is a bit of an understatement. 🙂 Have a great weekend!

I’m Provocative in Writeing!

Why hello fellow forum people! I just wanted to establish myself here as this looks like a dialect right interesting forum! I myself am provocative in things like writeing and computer revamping so if anyoune needs serve farm out me identify! I also Suffer from Sciatica so if you aslo have this condition cause to me know so we can share out some stretches!

How’s that for bizarre? I got that in my Spam folder as a comment here.

So this weekend freakin’ rocked. Saturday was the Grand Life Expo at church, which was a blastie blast. Food, classic cars, farm animals, dogs, bounce houses, music, all free. Very cool stuff. Then Sunday night, we had a party for the Youth called The Awakening, which featured laser tag, basketball, pizza, the Trae Castles Band, and an illusionist named Jared Hall. Jay Lowder also spoke to them that night, and it was intense. We had 50 kids come to Christ that night, it was amazing. We also gave away to the kids an iPod Touch, Airsoft guns, Coach purses, a Vizio TV, and a car. Yep, that’s right, a car. It was just a little ’91 Ford Probe. But hey, it was some kid’s first car, so that was awesome. Plus, it had been totally restored, so it was in practically new condition when the kid got it. Great stuff. 🙂

All in all, it was definitely one of those weekends I didn’t wanna have to go back to work after experiencing. Don’t you hate that? You have this life-changing, mind-blowing, multi-hyphenated-experience… then you have to go back to being Clark Kent. It sucks, y’know? I don’t know how we all get through it without going crazy.

Nevertheless, on and on we go. At least we have some chilly weather to enjoy. I’ve been wearing my jacket most of the past couple of days at work. It’s kind of a weird feeling, I’m not used to being cold like this on a regular basis. Usually I’m the one who’s all like, “Aww man, you weenie! Take off the jacket and be a man!” But now I’m getting cold a whole lot easier for some reason. I wonder if it’s my metamobomolism or the new diet or something.

That’s all for now. Have a good one, friend.

Today’s been… I dunno, irritating? I had to go outside to one of the temporary buildings and pull a computer to reimage it, because it was loaded down with a lovely virus. And of course, by the time I got out there, the cold front had blown through. So I had to walk through the chilly mist with a CPU tucked under my arm, which is fun like you’ve never experienced. I’m exaggerating a little, it wasn’t THAT bad. I actually appreciated the cold after the horrid mugginess I had to walk through at UTA yesterday afternoon. Seriously, I thought it was July again. Yuck.

Anyway, really, the walk outside wasn’t too bad this morning. But on the flip side, dealing with a certain coworker has been pretty rough today. I’m certainly not going to name any names, because I have no desire to spread the hate. But I’ve been really disappointed in how unprofessional they were when complaining about the fact that the teacher computer in the lab crashed this morning. The complaining was… prolonged, I guess you could say. Totally unnecessary. Of course, as soon as I start doing something about it, I’m BFF again. Ridiculous stuff.

BUT, I’m not gonna let it get me down. Still not a horrible day, all things considered. Yesterday was pretty silly. The students were released early, so they could go take the PSAT. The teachers used my labs for training all afternoon, Science in one, English in another, Math in another, etc.. Anyway, long story short, I had two printers glitch out at the same, on opposite ends of the building. Yay! It was really pretty funny the way it happened, and it all worked out in the end. The teachers and AP’s were really patient about all the issues that flared up, and we were all kinda having fun with it, so that made life a little easier while dealing with the crappy old printers. This one printer I have here in my “home” lab has been giving me a “service software error” lately. But every time I turn in a district help ticket and James comes out to look at it, the error message goes away. When James was leaving yesterday, I told him I’d call him once he stepped out the front door of the school and the error message popped up again. HAH. Of course, now that it’s figured out that I know what it’s up to, it’s not doing that anymore. It’s just sitting there. Watching me. Waiting…. waiting…….

Anyway…

Check it out! Ignore the lousy drawing on the right side of the box there. Didn’t work out like I wanted it to. But anyway, this is my first shipment out of the toys I’m selling! And so far it’s the only batch I’ve sold. So if anyone’s still interested, please go check out what I’m offering! We can certainly negotiate the price a little, if you want to. Just let me know.

Rain, rain on my face…

Seen the pictures from the Atlanta area? The flooding there’s pretty awful. I’ve got some friends out in that neck of the woods, so I’m praying that they (and everyone else) keep safe through this.

It’s certainly been a wet end to the summer, hasn’t it? Not just Atlanta, but definitely around here, too. All the craziness last week, and then that crazy squall line that moved through last night. I had the blessed fortune of walking to my car from UTA just as the storm hit there last night. Aaaand I forgot my umbrella in the car. So let me tell you, friend, that was one awesome walk. Especially since my two friends that I have class with every day BOTH remembered their umbrellas. I didn’t let them share with me, though, cuz they had silly little tiny umbrellas. My big ‘un could’ve easily protected all three of us, because I’m awesome like that.

Anyway, I made it to Jenn’s in one piece. Though it got kinda creepy on Pioneer Parkway for a bit, because the power was out between 161 and Carrier. And I mean OUT. The stoplights weren’t even flashing. It was eerie as heck. But still, made it just fine. We had a mighty good dinner, too. Jenn’s dad made some chili with deer meat, and it was nothing short of PHENOMENAL. He put molasses, cinnamon, honey, and who knows what else in it, so it had this robust sweet flavor to it. Not a normal chili taste, but it was still a life-changing event. It was so rich that Jenn couldn’t finish her bowl, so I ended up having a bowl and a half. No complaints here, though I wish I had some more today. 🙂

Well, Saturday is Troll’s wedding. Should be an interesting day. The rehearsal is Friday night, and I have to go pick up my tux on Thursday afternoon, which means I’ll need to skip class. I’m okay with that, though, because that means after I pick up my tux, I’ll be free to go to the first Refuge Bible Study of the semester. Woo-Hoo! See you Thursday night, Kilo.

Speaking of church, I did some digging regarding our possible new music minister. Found his current church’s website and took a look at the stuff he’s done for them. If what I found there is any indication, this guy could potentially be a huge benefit for our church. He definitely knows what he’s doing, and I can’t wait to work with him!

Ever watched one? Ever been in one?

I’m going to be a groomsman for a friend who’s supposed to be getting married next weekend, and quite frankly, it’s a mess. The maid of honor has backed out, the best man might be backing out, and Lord knows what else is happening. It’s such a mess, and I’m not sure what’s going on. This Saturday is supposed to be his bachelor party… we’ll see if it’s still gonna happen. Say a prayer for this couple when you get a chance, if you don’t mind. I feel bad for the guy, and the whole thing is just falling apart.

*sigh* This is not what I wanted to wake up to. I slept hard last night, and I’m having a hard time de-sleeping my brain. The weather’s still not helping, either. No rain right now, but the overcastyness is just knocking me out. I’d like nothing more than to just curl up in a big fuzzy ball and pass out for a couple weeks.

I crossed something off of my non-existent bucket list yesterday. I finally learned how to make a paper crane. 🙂 It’s something I’ve always wanted to do ever since I was a wee one, and it’s always frustrated me that I could never figure it out. But I found this website full of origami instructional goodness, and voila!

I’m pretty dang proud of myself. I’ma see what else I can make from the instructions on that site.

So we went to the Brad Paisley concert at the Superpages.com Center (previously the Smirnoff Music Center, previously the Coca-Cola Starplex).

On a completely unrelated note, the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex has received roughly 800 inches of rain since Friday evening.

Heh, but really, it was a blast. Sure, we got BEYOND drenched after standing out in the worst of it for several hours. But we got to hear some awesome music! Jimmy Wayne opened up the show. I’d never heard of him, but he had some excellent tunes. Dierks Bentley (yes, that’s spelled right) came out next, and he was a blast. Then Brad came out and just tore it up. I always forget that the man can shred on the guitar. Dude could hold his own with Clapton, srsly. He is easily leading the next generation of guitar legends. Jenn took some great pictures of him performing, but I haven’t had a chance to pull them off her camera yet. Nothing on Flickr yet either, which surprises me, but I snapped a couple shots on my iPhone (through a protective Ziploc bag) of our friends having some fun.

By the way, iPhones work GREAT through Ziploc bags! I could even update my Facebook status through the plastic. LOL

Anyway, all in all, it was so much fun. We all went to Whataburger afterward (after going home to change) and got some brekfust taquitos. Almost as good as a bag full of Jack in the Box tacos after midnight. 🙂

Still raining outside. It’s really starting to affect my mood, unfortunately. Feeling pretty down in the dumps today. I know it’ll pass though, just gotta have faith.

Listening to Rush of Fools perform live on K-LOVE right now via iTunes. Pretty nice.

So I had to go on a headphone-hunting adventure this morning. Allegedly, we have 30 headphones for each of my four computer labs. That being said, I have never seen 30 headphones in ANY of my four computer labs. In fact, the one time I actually have a teacher request headphones for the lab she was using with her class (literally, this is the first time since I’ve started working here last year), said lab had no more than 9 functioning sets. AUGH. So I had to go scrounge up headphones from the other labs. I took every single set and put them in one box, and they’re all staying together like that for the rest of the year, unless another teacher requests them. We’ve had way too many walk away under mysterious circumstances, and I’m not gonna let it happen anymore.

That sounded entirely too passionate and resolute for a rant about… headphones.

Anyway, other than the Grand Headphone Quest (GHQ, if you will), things have been pretty quiet this morning. I’ve been watching the radar for rain– which, Praise God, we’re finally seeing. I’m hoping before too long, we’ll start to see some more colors on the radar besides green and greener. There’s a little yellow off to the west, which could be a good sign.

Ever wondered what someone from, like, the 1920s would think if they saw our weather radar technology today (nevermind all the other crazy crap we have that would prob’ly scare the 23-skidoo’s out of them)? I mean, they hear we have a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, look on TV, and HOLY SMOKES THERE’S POISON GAS AND POSSIBLY LAVA FLOATING OVER US.

Man, I gotta get out more.

Anyway, I’m getting a haircut this afternoon. Just so you know.

When the rain comes…

April 17, 2009 Leave a comment

Yay, rain!

Love me a good downpour. Nothing like it, I say. Cleans the sinuses, cleans the car, cleans my mind. I love walking out and smelling that first hint of storm on the horizon.

…Okay, got that out of my system. I do hope the rain isn’t too bad tomorrow. We’re supposed to be going up to Lake Lewisville for a crawfish boil that an ex-coworker/friend of mine is hosting. Guess we’ll see what happens.

TGIF, friends. I’m ready party down with my bad self. Yesterday, as you could tell from my post, was not the most awesomest day ever. Long story short (because I can’t get too into the story in a public setting such as this), my coworker and another employee got into a rather heated argument about something. Neither side was totally right or totally wrong, and since it pertained to something that happened last year, it didn’t apply to me. Needless to say, I was unnecessarily involved, because when the other guy came in to talk to my coworker, I was literally sitting right in between them. So as I’m sitting there doing inventory and upgrades to one of my mobile labs, these guys are arguing around my head. Yeah, AWKWARD!

But anyway, it’s pretty much over and done with for now. It wouldn’t surprise me if they butt heads again later on, but I’ll deal with that as it happens.

Oh, I’ve been reading a new blog called Survive The Apocalypse. It’s basically a blog full of obvious things you should know how to do in the event of a worldwide catastrophe, but never think to learn until it’s too late. Pretty interesting read. It’s serious, but it’s also kinda tongue-in-cheek about certain things. Go give it a look-see when you get a chance. Bit of language, though, so be careful about who’s reading over your shoulder. One of my favorite parts is an equipment checklist that the guy offers. He puts numbers next to them, 1 being least important and 5 being a critical need:

• Gun (5) <– That’s actually at least how many I’d like to own, too. LOL
• Army Issue Mittens (4)
• Gas Mask (1)
• Dust Mask (5)
• Goggles (4)
• Russian Bomber Hat (3)
• Down Coat (5)
• Crank Flashlight (3)
• Phillips and Standard screwdriver (5)
• Collapsable Saw (5)
• Adjustible Wrench (5)
• Can-opener (3)
• Long Underwear (5)
• Wool Socks (5)
• Harmonica (2)
• Hunting Knife (4)
• Leatherman (2)
• Canteen for Water (5)
• Canteen for Fuel (5)
• Pump Water Purifier (3)
• Compass (5)
• Iodine Tablets (4)
• Small Radio (2)
• First Aid Kit (4)

I know it’s a pretty wacky thing to think about, but it does make sense to have all this stuff handy. Mind you, I’m hoping that should such an apocalyptic scenario occur, all us Christians will already be safe in the Lord’s arms before we ever even need such things. But it’s entirely possible that a disaster could happen at a time before He’s ready to call us home! I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, but I do plan on making kits at some point for Jenn, me, and our future kiddos. The way things are going these days (ohai, Israel), you can never be too careful.
